Trade Data
Trade data is the data for a buy, sell, or other action and includes:
- Symbol
- Date (and sometimes Time)
- Quantity
- Amount
- Action Type
But trade data does not include buy and sell matching and the resulting gain or loss amount.
Transaction Data
Transaction data is synonymous with trade data.
The term transaction is used commonly in the context of cryptocurrency exchange.
Realized Gain Data
Brokers match buys and sells and account for option transactions to determine realized gain or loss.
Realized gain data includes
- Description
- Date acquired
- Date sold
- Proceeds
- Cost
- Term
But wash sale adjustments are not present.
Taxable Gain Data
Brokers apply the wash sale rules to determine if any realized losses should be deferred (aka disallowed). Thus the taxable gain or loss for a sale may differ from the realized gain or loss.
Taxable gain data includes:
- Description of property
- Date acquired
- Date sold
- Proceeds
- Cost
- Wash sale loss disallowed
- Term
But information for applicable check box on Form 8949 is not present.
